| How adorable is this little guy? In addition to being handsome and the perfect size, he's good with dogs, cats and kids! George has been in a foster home since May, along with 4 other dogs and 3 cats from a severe animal hoarding situation, where a person had 200 dogs and 80 cats on a property in Mojave, CA. Fortunately, the courts allowed some of our local rescues to save the animals. When George was initially rescued, his coat was matted and filthy, so he was taken to a groomer who transformed him into the beautiful creature you see today. The people who are responsible for hoarding these animals are in custody and will be sentenced on July 8th, but there are still so many more animals who need help. Even if George isn't the dog for you, please call the rescue to find out how you can help another animal by becoming a temporary foster home. |
Name: Mickey |
| Mickey has been in the shelter since January. That's a long time for such a good dog to be in a kennel. He's a volunteer favorite with a charming personality. He loves to be around people, he's active, walks well on a gentle leader, and knows his basic commands. Last Saturday he was chosen to walk in a parade and did wonderfully with the crowd. He loves rolling in the grass and feeling it against his back, and when they let him out of his kennel, he'll run around the yard and try to pounce on lizards. He does have a lot of energy, so if you have children, they should be big enough to not get knocked over when he starts to play. When you adopt from the North County Humane Society in Oceanside, all pets are spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and come with a training DVD, a free month of pet insurance and a free vet visit! Stop by the shelter on San Luis Rey Road today to meet your new best friend! |
Name: Kira |
| Kira is available for adoption through Animal Rescuers Without Borders. She is full grown at 40 pounds, crate-trained, housebroken, great with other dogs, children and adults. She's even okay with cats. She's not a barker, loves to go on car rides, play at the off-leash dog parks and beaches. She does require a family with a yard, or someone who is very athletic and active, or at a very minimum, another dog in the family with whom she can play! She makes an excellent running partner. She was relinquished by her previous owner for financial reasons. Until recently, she lived in an apartment where she spent a lot of time in a crate all day long. But she is thriving in a foster home where she's allowed to play and run and get the exercise she needs. She's incredibly loving and well-behaved. She sleeps through the night on her doggie bed, but will try to sneak into bed and cuddle with her person if she thinks she can get away with it. Animal Rescuers Without Borders is a non-profit agency rescuing dogs from both sides of the border. All pets are treated medically, spayed, neutered, fully vaccinated, tested and ready to go to a loving family. Remember, even if you're not ready to adopt a forever dog, call to find out how you can become a foster home for a dog in need. |
Name: Kittens |
| We have three of the many kittens available from the Friends of Cats Shelter in El Cajon. Ginger is the dark grey one, with short hair. The other two are both male, grey & white Tabbies, and their names are Robert and Fred. They were born at the shelter to a mom who was dropped off by an owner who din't spay his female cat. She was VERY pregnant and had the babies within the first few days she was at the shelter. Since they have been well-socialized from the day they were born, they are very happy and friendly, they enjoy being around other kittens and cats, kids, and maybe even a dog. If you have a dog, the shelter has a meet-and-greet area where you can introduce the dog and cat before adoption to make sure everything goes well. All cats adopted from the Friiends of Cats Shelter have been spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, tested negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV, and come with a free vet visit and adoption kit. All for only $50.....the lowest adoption fee in all of San Diego County. |
Name: Carmen |
| Carmen was found in December in the streets of Baja, eating out of the trash with her two little babies. She was only 20 pounds when they first rescued her and now weighs a perfect 27 pounds, full grown. She's independent and loves hanging out & playing with other dogs, but will break off from the pack and run right back to her people when they call. She's the first one to greet her foster mom at the door when she gets home from work. She's normally quiet, until someone comes near the house, and then she'll let her foster mom know, which is appreciated! Carmen loves car rides, and going on walks. She's even good with the household cats, though she'll chase any strays that wander too close to the yard. She's good on a leash, and gentle with treats. Animal Rescuers Without Boarders is a foster and rescue agency working to save pets north and south of the border. All dogs are spayed or neutered before adoption, fully vaccinated, tested and micro-chipped. They encourage a foster-to-adopt policy, where you start out fostering the dog, just to make sure everything works out well, before finalizing the adoption. It's a great way to adopt a pet! |
Name: Skyla |
| Skyla is housebroken and quiet, crate-trained and good with other dogs. She loves all people and would love to just be by your side. She knows how to use a doggie door, take treats gently, and share her toys. If you want to adopt her, the first thing the rescue is going to do is ask you to fill out an application even before calling. So if you want to get started right away, I suggest you go online to socalrescue.org to fill out an application. That way, even if you wind up seeing another purebred German Shepherd that you're interested in, you've already filled out all the necessary paperwork to get started. If you don't have internet service just give them a call and leave a message. |
Name: Lisette |
| Lisette is an absolutely adorable 6 month old, purebred, black and tan German Shepherd puppy. All she wants to do is make friends with every person and every dog she meets. She even likes going to the vet! She was turned into a shelter because she was limping when she was just a young puppy, but Southern California German Shepherd Rescue has had her evaluated and x-rayed, and she has great hips. She no longer limps either, so there's no sign of permanent injuries. If you want to adopt her, the first thing the rescue is going to do is ask you to fill out an application even before calling. So if you want to get started right away, I suggest you go online to socalrescue.org to fill out an application. Name: Albert |
| Albert is an adorable and popular mix of Corgi and Shepherd. He's a 10 year old boy, and has been overlooked at the shelter due to his age. He came in with a Golden Retriever buddy a couple of weeks ago, and his friend was adopted, but alas, Albert was left behind. He's a super nice dog, and he always runs to the front of the kennel when a prospective family walks by....but they keep walking by and ignore poor little Albert. He likes other dogs, he's good with kids, and he's housebroken. Because he's a senior dog, his adoption fee is only $30, but he's fully vaccinated, licensed, neutered and micro-chipped. The El Cajon Animal Shelter is located on North Marshall Street, about two blocks north of Fletcher Parkway, and they open at 10 a.m. today. Please consider rescuing Albert and making him part of your family right away! Even if you can't adopt, remember to ask about fostering Albert until a permanent home can be found. |
|
| Elektra is a athletic dog that is very smart, and she is always looking for things to do. She loves to fetch, go for walks, get belly rubs, and she would probably make a good family watch dog. Although she is on the smaller side for a shepherd dog, she is strong. So it would be best that she go into a home with older children who could manage her strength. She recently attended an adoption event and did well with all the other dogs and folks who came to the event. |
|
| Dolly is a 4-year-old mover and shaker awaiting her forever home. She has tons of energy and really loves to play and run. All the volunteers at the shelter just love her, and she wiggles with excitement when her friends come to take her for a walk! She is super smart and learns quickly, so obedience training will be a breeze. She can get a little possessive with toys and treats, so she would probably do best in a home with no small children and she would prefer to be the only dog in the home. She likes some dogs, just pickey about who to share people's attention with. |

| Queen Latifah is part of a large litter of kittens which was found by a Cal Trans worker in a drain one morning. They were only about 3 or 4 weeks old when he found them covered in dirt, skinny, hungry and scared. The worker picked all the kittens out of the drain and put them in a bucket, and brought them to the Friends of Cats shelter in El Cajon. The kittens were so filthy they had to be cleaned before they could even be processed and evaluated. It's so wonderful that there are people out there who will go above and beyond the call of duty to save little guys like this. All the kittens are now 11-weeks-old, altered, current on vaccinations, tested negative for FeLV and FIV, microchipped and come with a free vet visit. The adoption fee is only $50 per kitty, which is an incredible deal when you consider it costs the shelter more than twice that much for all the care they put into these kittens. I believe that is THE lowest adoption fee from a legitimate agency here in San Diego County. All the kittens are adorable and ready to go to their forever homes, where they will never be let outside to get lost in a drain! The Friends of Cats Shelter is on Old Hwy 80 in El Cajon, just off the 8, and they've been in business for 80-years! |

| Prince Charles is a 7 or 8-year-old Golden Retriever/Labrador mix. They named him Prince Charles because they say he has an aristocratic personality. He reminds the volunteers of royalty. Sadly, he was found tied up in an abandoned field. He was obviously waiting patiently for his person to return, but that never happened, and he eventually wound up at a shelter. Fortunately, one of the people involved in rescue discovered him behind bars, and recognized him for the prince that he is. He's a long-legged, fair-haired boy with a calm and sweet demeanor. He's sophisticated and knows all his commands, and is perfectly mannered on and off a leash. He's great with other dogs and loves all people. Call today if you're interested in adopting Prince Charles. |
|
| Mona Lisa is very sweet and weighs about 50 lbs. She is good with children, & other dogs. She is looking forward to finding her forever home -- she's a great family dog! She has been spayed and has all her shots. She came from a home where the family could no longer afford to feed her due to the economy and there fore they relocated back to the mid-west but sadly left her behind. |
|
| Trixie is a tri-colored, 35-pound, one-year-old, Treeing Walker Coonhound mix. Not the kind of breed you see every day in San Diego, which makes it a nice change of pace for our pet segment. She was turned into a very high-kill, overcrowded shelter, in Turlock, CA, and a couple of the Second Chance Dog Rescue volunteers jumped in their car and made a long road-trip to save her when her time had run out at the shelter. The Treeing Walker Coonhound is known to be good with kids and other dogs, and has a very positive reputation. They're hunting dogs, but also excellent companion animals. They love attention, and are very loyal dogs. I highly suggest you google the breed to find out more about how wonderful these dogs are. Second Chance Dog Rescue has adoption events on Thursday evenings, and on the weekends. They always have a good selection of breeds and sizes available for adoption, so even if Trixie isn't the dog for you, please call to let them know what you're looking for, or find out how you can become a volunteer and a temporary foster home for a dog in need, like Trixie. |
|
| Nikki is a charming girl, about 6 - 7 years old, and appears to be a shepherd mix of some kind. She's not very big, - - she's more of a smaller large dog. She really has a lovely personality, she walks nicely on a leash and she knows the command "sit." She gets along great with other dogs. You can see her in the doggy play group at the shelter in the 24-second video on her Petfinder listing. She will make a great companion for the lucky family who adopts her. Ready to make her your new best friend? Come meet her in person! You just might decide to take her home. She's ready to go today if she's a match for your family. That would make her dreams come true. |
|
| Today we're featuring another cat from the Friends of Cats shelter in El Cajon, which has the lowest adoption fee of any shelter or rescue in San Diego....yet they don't skimp on the care they provide. For example, before adoption, all the cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested for feline leukemia and FIV, microchipped, and they also come with a free vet visit after adoption.....all this for $50. Axwell is a 10-week-old, medium haired, flame point Siamese mix. He was found living in the base of a tree with his sister when they were only 4 weeks of age. I'm so happy someone took them to Friends of Cats where they wouldn't be labeled "Feral Cats", but instead were placed in the adoption program. Axwell is one of the sweetest most lovable kittens you will ever meet. He loves to run and jump on people, plus he's super good with other cats, kids and dogs. Don't forget, it's Adopt-A-Cat Month, so if you've been thinking about adding a new member to your family, now is the time to do it! |

| "Aged to perfection". That's the description they sent over to me last night about the dog I'd be showing today. And that's exactly what she is. June is an 8 year old black Lab, and is just a perfect dog in every way. She's loving, well-behaved, and is so happy to have been rescued. She's so grateful for all the love and attention she gets, and is just a big cuddler in return. At 8 years of age, she's past all the annoying puppy behavior, but if you're looking for a mellow, easy-going pal, she's the perfect dog. Her idea of happiness is a warm soft rug to lie on, a nice brisk walk every day, sunny afternoon naps, good food, and lots of love and people surrounding her. She's great with all critters...dogs, cats, even kids! She doesn't have perfect hearing, but then again, neither does any dog until you try opening a bag of treats. They can hear that from anywhere in the house. If you're interested in adopting June, or learning how you can foster a Labrador Retriever until a permanent home can be found, call Labradors & Friends Rescue today! |

| Bear is super affectionate and very people-oriented! He's obedient and snuggly. Needs a home without cats, but he's behaving well in a home with another female dog. Bear enjoys walking and he's good on a leash. He's your typical gentle giant. The above number is the direct line for the Foster coordinator for the Escondido Humane Society. Please call to adopt Bear, or to find out how you can become a foster home for a dog in need |
|
| Casey is the longest dog resident at the Escondido Humane Society. In fact, she's been in the shelter for more than a year now, and she's a volunteer favorite! She's a four-year-old spayed female labrador/pitty mix. She is a big girl with lots of love and vitality. After spending a year in a kennel, they'd like to see Casey go into a home with a nice back yard to play in, and a family where she can be the only pet, and because of her size and weight, they'd like to place her in a home without children. The volunteers say she is a big love and enjoys a robust game of fetch. The shelter is open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Casey's adoption fee includes her spay, full vaccinations, de worming, de fleaing, a micro chip, a free certificate for a private vet check up, a gift certificate to Dogtopia for a free spa treatment, a large bag of food, a leash, a collar and some toys. What a deal...but the best deal is you will be adopting your life long friend, and you'll be the hero that saved a dog who has been passed over at the shelter for more than a year. |
|
| All week long, I've been featuring cats from local shelters because it's National Adopt-a-Cat Month, and so many cats are killed in our shelters every year that there's no reason to ever go to a breeder or a pet store when so many cats need homes. Today we're bringing you a 10-year old Siamese mix, named Boots. He's litter-box-trained and good with other cats. In fact he was turned in with a beautiful white female cat, and he used to live with an old deaf & blind dog. So obviously, he's just a laid-back, mellow guy. |
|
| Holly is a one-year-old, short-haired, torti-point Siamese mix who is playful, sweet and does well with gentle children, however she does not do well with dogs. Her previous owners gave up her and another cat when they were forced to move for economic reasons. They said she's a wonderful cat, however, and will make someone very happy. She's spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped and tested negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV. Plus, she comes with a free visit to a veterinarian. The amazing thing is that you get all this for only $50. The reason Friends of Cats is able to do this for such a reasonable amount, is because they lose money on every adoption, but the hope to make it up in donations from people who appreciate the good work they're doing at their shelter in El Cajon. This month is especially important for shelters like Friends of Cats, because it's National Adopt A Cat month, and shelters are at capacity with cats and kittens. So please stop by the shelter on Old Hwy 80 in El Cajon, and see if you can find a new addition to your family. |
|
| Mario is a 3-year-old neutered male domestic shorthair. Two weeks ago, his elderly owners took him, and all the other family pets, to the El Cajon Animal Shelter because they were too ill to care for them anymore. Mario is good with other animals, because he used to live with three other dogs and three other cats. He's an indoor-only cat who has never been outside, and we'd like to keep it that way. He's been well cared for, he's litter box trained and well-behaved. He IS a big talker, and likes as much attention as he can get! His adoption fee is only $55, and for that small amount, he's neutered, vaccinated, he's tested negative for feline leukemia, he's been dewormed and microchipped. That's a lot of additional stuff for only $55, so it's a great deal! The El Cajon Animal Shelter is located on North Marshall Street, about two blocks north of Fletcher Parkway, and they open at 10 a.m. today. Please consider rescuing Mario and making him part of your family right away! |
|
| Just hours before O'Reiley was scheduled to be euthanized in one of the high-kill shelters, Second Chance Dog Rescue volunteers got him out! Luckily for him, there was a foster home available. Too often there isn't...which is why I encourage people to open their home to a dog or cat who needs a temporary shelter until a permanent one can be found. O'Reilly is friendly, mellow, lovable, likes to snuggle, and get on the bed. He's housebroken, and up to date on all his shots. They're guessing that he's an Australian Cattle Dog with possibly some Akita mixed in. He's great with other dogs of all sizes, doesn't bark and enjoys car rides. He's such a beautiful boy, too. He's about 70-pounds, and for a dog who is only a year old, he has an old-soul....a very mellow, gentle personality, which is what makes him so incredibly special. |

| Flake and Walnut Whip are two more females from the Friends of Cats Litter that were also featured on KUSI GOOD MORNING SAN DIEGO! They, and the rest of their very large litter, were born at the Friends of Cats Shelter after a good Samaritan found their pregnant mother and brought her to the shelter. Now that all the kittens are old enough and healthy enough to be adopted, they have been altered, vaccinated, tested for any diseases, and microchipped. Also, they receive a free first visit to to the vet when you adopt them, and the adoption fee is still only $50. If you were able to get a kitten for free, it would cost you hundreds more than that to have them altered, vaccinated, tested and microchipped, so this is a really good deal. Ideally, you might consider adopting two at the same time, so that they can play together inside the house when you're at work. Friends of Cats is located at 15587 Olde Hwy 80, just off the 8 in El Cajon, and they're open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. |

| This is Curly Wurly & Aero. Curly Wurly is a neutered, male, black kitten with medium hair, and Aero is his sister; a medium haired, black and white, spayed female. Kibbles is a 14-month-old Australian Shepherd mix puppy who is just a wonderful boy with beautiful markings. He's very good with other dogs, and since he's been in a great foster home, he's overcome a lot of his earlier shyness. He really enjoys going to the off-leash dog park, and has learned to use a doggie door to go outside when he needs to. He is scheduled for eye surgery this week to remove his left eye, which he can't see out of. The vet believes it might be due to a birth defect or early puppy injury, but the vet feels that removing the eye would be best. Even if you don't want to adopt Kibbles, you can always make a donation to help pay for his surgery. In fact, if you donate to the San Diego Animal Support Foundation, wae'll donate 100% of that money to Australian Shepherd Rescue for the surgery. But of course, our top priority would be to find him a loving family of his own who will love and protect him for the rest of his life. So please call today, to find out how you can rescue this great dog. Emergency Pet Assistance Fund Information for Kibbles HERE. |

| Meet Carlyle, a 2-year-old, Black Labrador/Shepherd mix. Carlyle's foster mom says that he's a very sweet dog with a great disposition. He loves to cuddle and rest his big head on your lap and look into your eyes, or fall asleep with his head resting on your feet. He's mellow, submissive, loves being indoors, but also likes to play outside in the sprinklers. He's great with other dogs and enjoys playing with all his canine buddies at the off-leash parks and beaches. He's a great running partner for his foster mom who takes him for a 30 minute run each day, and he's gentle and patient with her 11-month-old toddler. Rumor has iit he's good with cats, as well. His only issue is separation anxiety, but his foster family solves that problem by giving him plenty of exercise and putting him in his crate when they have to run errands. He'd be best with a family who is home quite a bit, and also one with another pet to help him feel more confident. Call Labradors & Friends today to find out how you can adopt, or become a foster home for a Labrador in need. |

Guero is a 10-year-old dog who prefers to be an indoor dog...one that can hang out inside with the family, or go to work with his owners. Obviously, he's in great shape, he loves to play ball and take long walks, and he's good with other dogs, so you could even take him to the off-leash parks and beaches here in San Diego. He's super loving and sweet and will do just about anything for a good belly rub....especially if there are treats involved. His adoption fee is only $55, and he's already neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and comes with a free vet check. Placing a 10-year old dog is always difficult. 8 out of 10 people probably stopped listening to me when they heard his age....but for the rest of you who are hanging in there, you know how nice it is to have an older, mellow, happy-go-lucky dog around the house. So please consider adopting Guero....at least head over to the Escondidio Humane Society and meet him....if he's not the one for you, they have hundreds of others you'll be sure to fall in love with. |

| Everyone is always saying they'd like to adopt a de clawed cat...and of course, we don't recommend you de claw a cat, because the consequences, both behaviorally and medically, can be disastrous and irreversible. Medically, cats may never fully heal from the proceedure, and may be in pain for the rest of their lives. Behaviorally, they may act out by marking their territory, or becoming biters. But in this case, Aurora is already de clawed in her front paws, and has come out of it without any signs of trauma. She's a beautiful Persian who is good with other cats, and even dogs. If you adopt her, you should know something about Persians, for example, they need to be brushed regularly, and the fur around their eyes need to be washed often...nevertheless, they're a very popular breed. Aurora is litter-box-trained, vaccinated, and spayed. She's available from the National Cat Protection Society, which is located in Spring Valley on Birch Street. |
|
| Angel is a 1 year old, diluted tortoiseshell kitty, with short hair. She was brought to the Friends of Cats shelter in August as a pregnant stray....so she was only about 7 months old, and already pregnant....which is a perfect example of why we have such a huge pet overpopulation crisis. She had 5 babies and raised them all at the shelter, and of course while the tiny kittens get adopted, one year old cats find it harder to find a home. The thing is, she's still just a very young kitty, who is super sweet, loves to give face nuzzles, and she's now spayed, vaccinated, tested for any diseases, and micro-chipped.
The Friends of Cats shelter is celebrating their 80th anniversary right now, so please stop by and let this long-time, reputable shelter know that you appreciate the work they do. They're located on Old Hwy 80 in El Cajon, just off the 8, and they're open every day, except Monday! |
CLICK HERE to see Donner on KUSI's GOOD MORNING SAN DIEGO!Name: Donner Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer Age: 10 years old Sex: Neutered Male Organization: German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue Phone: ( 760) 726-4813 Email: info@GSP-Rescue.org ![]() |
| Donner is a 10 year old male German Shorthaired Pointer that was turned into the rescue by his owner. He's well-behaved, in good health and will sit for treats. Donner gets along well with other dogs. He is good with children and enjoys riding in cars. He probably shouldn't go to a home with cats, as he's never been around them before. Unlike younger GSPs, he doesn't need a large yard but will be comfortable with a smaller backyard. Donner would be a great dog for someone that isn't that active but would enjoy a dog to just hang out with, or take on an occasional walk. GSP Rescue is desperate need to place several dogs in a very short amount of time. Many are Seniors. A few have special needs. For years, German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue has acted as a sanctuary for older dogs. Unfortunately, they were fined by the County for having too many dogs recently, and were given a short period of time to find homes for all these old dogs. If you have it in your heart to help save one of these old dogs, please call German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue today...don't wait, time is running out for them! |
CLICK HERE to see Blossom on San Diego 6's ANIMAL HOUSE!Name: Blossom Breed: Pit Bull Mix Age: 4 years old Sex: Spayed Female Organization: El Cajon Animal Shelter (1275 N. Marshall, two blocks north of Fletcher Parkway) Phone: (619) 441-1580 X9 Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tues-Sat Email:DHutchin@ci.el-cajon.ca.us |
| It's a tough time to be a Pit Bull in a shelter. All the odds are against them. So many people are losing their homes, and most renters are prevented from having Pitties, so there just isn't a pool of potential adopters for these guys. Blossom is much smaller than a pit, but she definitely appears to be a mix of the breed. She is available for adoption at the El Cajon Animal shelter where they say she's a really sweet, friendly girl with an outgoing, independent personality. She's just 4 years old, and she's always up for a game of fetch. She has the cutest little face and the volunteers swear she's the smartest dog at the shelter. She knows a lot of commands, is housebroken, and makes great eye contact. She's small enough to sit on your lap, but big enough to keep up with you on a hike in the hills. Blossom is available for adoption at the El Cajon Animal Shelter for only $65, and she's already spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. The shelter is located on North Marshall Street, just two blocks north of Fletcher Parkway, and they open at 10 a.m. |
CLICK HERE to see Madison on San Diego 6's ANIMAL HOUSE!Name: Madison Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer Age: 9 years old Sex: Spayed Female Organization: German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue Phone: (760) 726-4813 Email: info@GSP-Rescue.org ![]() |
| Lately we've featured quite a few German Shorthaired Pointers, like Madison, who are running out of time quickly at German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue, where they've been ordered to get rid of 30 dogs by the 15th of April. Most of them are older, and therefore considered unadoptable by shelter standards. Madison, for example, is 9-years-old, and perfect in just about every way, except that most people want puppies. She's a perfect example of why an older dog is often a better choice, as she's housebroken, mellow, well-behaved. She's a bit of a busy-body, likes being a part of everything and wants to be everywhere you are! She doesn't need a lot of exercise, just her regular walks. After her walk, she enjoys napping and will nudge you for attention, or just to remind you that she's still around. Maddie was rescued from a shelter in Los Angeles where her time had run out and they called the rescue to save her. If you can now help GSP Rescue by adopting or fostering Madison, please call today. |
CLICK HERE to see Stacie on San Diego 6's ANIMAL HOUSE (and HERE with some friends at San Diego Living)!Name: Stacie Breed: Californian Rabbit Age: 1 year Sex: Spayed Female Organization: North County Humane Society Phone: (760) -757-4357 |
| Stacey is a spayed female Californian mix, who's just a little over a year old. She has a reputation for being a very sweet bunny! She's still very young, and enjoys being pet, and seem like a good bunny for just about anyone, including a first-time rabbit owner or a family with gentle children. She likes being held, has a great personality, and she's been at the shelter since November. A lot of families think about getting bunnies around the Easter holiday, and before you do, there are a lot of factors to take into consideration, such as the fact that rabbits live about as long as a dog, and vet care is quite expensive for a rabbit because they're considered exotic animals. If you've done your research, I beg you to consider adopting a shelter or rescue rabbit, instead of buying one from a store. In just a little while, on San Diego Living, we're going to be introducing you to some more bunnies looking for a home, and talk about some of the issues you really need to consider before making the big decision to bring home a bunny. |
CLICK HERE to see Pearl on San Diego 6's ANIMAL HOUSE!Name: Pearl Breed: Australian Shepherd Age: 10 weeks old (puppy) Sex: Spayed Female Organization: Aussie Rescue of San Diego Phone: (619) 469-3748 ![]() |
| Pearl is a 10-week old Australian Shepherd who weighs 12 pounds but should be about 45 pounds when she's full grown. She's considered a special needs dog, because she was born deaf. She's being trained in her current foster home to learn hand signals, and so far, she's doing wonderfully with her training. Pearl is almost housebroken, and already knows how to use a doggie door to go outside. As long as a deaf dog has the right home environment, they're not a lot different from a dog that can hear....they just need a different method of training. But Australian Shepherds are SMART working dogs, and Pearl is a good example of how quickly the breed can adapt. Her foster family wanted me to give you a few examples of why a deaf dog is so wonderful....first, they don't bark when the doorbell rings or when someone knocks at the door, they don't bark just because the neighbors dogs start barking, they don't freak out about fireworks on the 4th of July, and if you have a party, they'll sleep through all the excitement. So call Aussie Rescue of San Diego to adopt sweet little Pearl, today! |
|
| Meka is a 2.5 year old medium-haired brown Tabby. She was brought to the Friends of Cats shelter, in El Cajon, back in September of '08 with her litter of kittens. Her previous owner gave up her, and her kittens, due to health issues. Of course, all the kittens have been adopted, but these are tough times for a 2.5 year old cat. Unfortunately, this sweetheart has been overlooked. She's a very affectionate, nice lap-cat, and her adoption fee is only $50, and that includes the cost of spaying her, vaccinations, microchip and all tests for feline leukemia and FIV. Plus, she gets a free vet visit. |
CLICK HERE to see Reggie on San Diego 6's ANIMAL HOUSE!Name: Reggie Breed: Cocker Spaniel mix Age: 1 year old Sex: Neutered Male Organization: Australian Shepherd Rescue of San Diego Phone: (619) 469-3748 |
Reggie is a Cocker Spaniel mix who needed help, and he's so wonderful that Aussie Rescue of San Diego was willing to let him into their program, even though he's not the breed they focus on. He's only about a year old, he's on the small side...only 24-pounds...and that's as big as he's going to get, which is perfect for most people. Reggie loves other dogs, and he's even good with cats. One of our viewers called just the other day looking for a cat-friendly dog...well, here's your chance! He also rides well in the car, and has been to obedience classes. So, you're probably wondering why a dog this perfect would wind up in rescue? It's because his owner is having serious health issues, and isn't able to keep Reggie. It's a tragedy for Reggie, but someone out there watching today is going to get a great dog! So please call, and let's find him a home as soon as possible. |
CLICK HERE to see Snickers on San Diego 6's ANIMAL HOUSE! Name: Snickers Breed: Shepherd mix Age: 7 years old Sex: Neutered Male Organization: Second Chance Dog Rescue Phone: (619) 231-6960 ![]() |
Snickers is a golden, red Shepherd mix who weighs about 65-pounds. He's playful with a great attitude. He's 7 years old, but doesn't act a day over 4. He was confiscated by animal control during a huge bust of a hoarder in Kern County three years ago, when they took more than 150 dogs away from one woman. About 40 of those dogs wound up in L.A. shelters where they've spent the past three years in small cages. Well, Snickers is one of those dogs. Despite his past, he's super happy, great around other dogs, and will be a great family pet. Only cautionary note....no cats for this boy. But if you have a cat, we'll match you up with another cat-friendly dog. If you're interested in adopting Snickers and giving him the happy life and love he finally deserves, please call Second Chance Dog Rescue today. |

CLICK HERE to see Micah on San Diego 6's ANIMAL HOUSE!Name: Micah Breed: Australian Shepherd Age: 3 years old Sex: Neutered Male Organization: Aussie Rescue of San Diego Phone: (691) 469-3748 |
Micah is a beautiful, 24-pound Australian Shepherd who was rescued from a breeder who left Micah in a back yard. He's a little on the small side, and won't get any bigger, which is just perfect for most people. He was super shy when he was first rescued, but in a loving foster home, he's really made huge amounts of progress. That's why it's so important that we find people who are willing to become foster parents for animals, because you can completely turn a dog's life around with just a little patience, and some good treats! Micah will need a family who will help him to continue his socialization. He's already wonderful with other dogs and cats, however, so if you have other animals, they may bring him out of his shell. He loves to go on walks, and is a very gentle, affectionate boy. Call Aussie Rescue today to find out about adopting Micah, or to learn what it takes to become part of the foster program |
CLICK HERE to see Leilani on San Diego 6's ANIMAL HOUSE!Name: Leilani Breed: Pit Bull mix Age: 2 years Sex: Spayed Female Organization: Pit Bull Rescue San Diego Phone: (858) 361-3592 |
Lelani was originally a stray who wound up at the shelter and caught the eye of a volunteer who called Pit Bull Rescue to pull her from the shelter and place her in a foster home, where she currently resides. She gets along with the other dogs and puppies....in fact, she's currently living with three other dogs. She's housebroken, crate trained, knows her basic commands, very affectionate and while she has a medium energy level, she's also pretty content just snoozing in front of the television with her people. She loves to play with her basketball, and is always up for a good game of tug. As with all legitimate rescue agencies, Pit Bull Rescue spays, neuters, fully vaccinates and micro-chips all dogs before they're adopted...so you have the confidence of adopting from a group who has been around for a long time in this community. |
|
| Priscilla is just one year old, weighs 12-pounds, and is just a little sweetheart. She's very good with other dogs, and also good with cats! Mostly, though, she loves laps! Just sitting in your lap will be her favorite thing to do. She's a very smart little girl, with a lot of energy. She'd love a family to call her own. As an added bonus, Priscilla is crate trained and housebroken...plus, she walks well on a leash. What more could anyone ever want? |
|
| Blossom & Berry are a bonded pair of Dutch-mix bunnies. They're devoted companions, and both are still under a year old. Blossom is the larger of the two, with blue eyes, and Berry is a smaller dwarf size. They're very active, litter box trained, and are used to living indoors. |

| If a cat has 9 lives, then Hurricane Jose has definitely used up two of them. The first time, he was lucky enough to escape Hurricane Katrina, to be shipped off to San Diego with more than 40 other felines. In May of 2007, he was the last of the cats to be adopted from the Friends of Cats shelter....but recently, he was returned to the facility after more than a year on the streets fending for himself. Turns out the family that adopted him, moved and left him behind. Luckily, some great people took care of him until his microchip was traced back to the shelter. Now, Hurricane Jose is ready for adoption again. He's good with kids and other cats, current on all his shots, and comes with a free vet-check....all for only $50. |
|
| Charles is a friendly, laid-back, 10-year-old boy who enjoys going on walks and meeting new friends. He's good with other dogs and doesn't even mind sharing his foster home with kitties. He's so well behaved, and wants nothing more than to be with his people. He'll happily snuggle up with you at night in bed, or chill-out with you on the couch in front of the TV. He's housetrained, knows his basic commands, and is way past all that naughty puppy stuff. He likes to ride shotgun in the car, and takes treats like a little gentleman. It's a tough time for adoptions due to the economy, and it's even tougher to find an adopter for a 10-year-old Pittie....but all we need is one person to see this and give this boy a loving home. For all of you Pittie lovers out there, even if you can't adopt at this time, call Pit Bull Rescue of San Diego and find out how you can volunteer, or foster a dog until a permanent home can be found. It'll be your chance to save an innocent dogs life, and there are so many great dogs, like Charles, right now who need your help. |
Name: Victor |
| Victor is currently in a foster home where he's GREAT with kids....the kids hide, and Victor sniffs them out and licks them when he finds them. His foster mom says it's a very fun game to watch. He's such a sweet boy and he'll do well in a family with kids or other dogs. He enjoys going on car rides and walks. He doesn't seem to have a mean bone in his body, and the foster family thinks he is just one of the most well-natured dogs they've ever had the pleasure of fostering. Baja Animal Sanctuary is a huge no-kill sanctuary in Mexico, however, they run one of the most successful foster and adoption programs north of the border. Because they are approved to operate in San Diego, they also spay/neuter, vaccinate and vet check all animals, just like any other legitimate organization would do. Even if you aren't ready to adopt today, I would HIGHLY recommend you call the Baja Animal Sanctuary to find out how to get involved in fostering....they're a very easy organization to work with. |

It's Tortoise Time! THUNDER was featured on KUSI GOOD MORNING SAN DIEGO! Name: Thunder
|
Thunder was turned into the society by an owner who no longer could care of him. These guys eat, eat, eat, hence the nick-name "Pigs in a Shell". In addition to grass they eat bermuda grass hay, romaine lettuce, squash, kale, collard greens and a list of things that are on the Society's website. |
