Help Animals In Need of Emergency Medical Funds

BIM DOGGIE MEDICAL FUND

New Page 1

PLEASE HELP US....FOR BIM:

AMOUNT NEEDED:  $3,800
AMOUNT RAISED:  $1,816.21  (We're soooo close!)

Most college students, when faced with a $3,800 vet bill, would immediately take their dog to a shelter to be euthanized.
Not 19-year-old, SDSU student, Irina Chukhray.
She left her paralyzed Dachshund, Bim, with the veterinarian, and went out to raise the money herself.  After days of struggling to get a pledge of $300, she realized her dog was sitting in a cage and suffering, and needed the surgery immediately, so she called the San Diego Animal Support Foundation for help.
Why was she different that so many others who ask for money?  Because she promised to help with as much of the bill as possible.  She agreed to take responsibility for raising $1,000, herself, and even offered to scrub the floors and toilets of a shelter just to pay off the rest.  She'd do anything to save her dog.   She wasn't just looking for a hand out.
When we found out on Friday night that the dog had been suffering for at least two days, we called the vets office immediately, and told them to get the surgery done!  We did NOT have the money in our medical fund to cover the bill, but we'd worry about that later.  The clinic knew we were good for it.

UPDATE: April 18....Irina recently told us how Bim (pronounced Beam) was able to stand for about 20-seconds, and for the first time, turned his whole body over for a belly-rub....this is GREAT NEWS!!
Today, we heard from Trish Penick, who volunteered her water rehab services to Bim, and she says he is progressing wonderfully with his therapy, and she expects him to achieve 90-100% of his previous abilities!
Meanwhile, the Foundation continues to raise the money to cover as much of the $3,800 as possible.
The San Diego Animal Support Foundation (SDASF) is a non-profit, 501c3 organization which focuses on raising funds to help more than 24 different underfunded local rescues and shelters.  We feature adoptable pets on television every day, fund spay/neuter surgeries for rescues, help shelters and rescues with financial needs, send press releases and media alerts regarding animal welfare issues, and when there are medical emergencies in within the community, we try our best to assist owners who exhaust their own funds.
If you can help us with the surgery, please donate via paypal, or mail a check to:

Bim Medical Fund

P.O. Box 880133
San Diego, CA 92168
Please mention on checks and PayPal that you specifically want the money to go to the Bim Doggie Medical Fund. We will use all the money raised to pay down his expenses, and if we're lucky enough to have any left over (doubtful), it will remain in our medical account to pay for the next medical emergency...we are not the type of group to save large "reserves". We spend what we've got.
The SDASF is a 501c3 non-profit organization, EIN 33-0869383 (for your records). Paypal will give you a confirmation of your transaction for tax purposes. Please tell anyone you think can help.
Thank you!

Gretchen Medical Fund

Updated:  November 2006.  As you all know, the San Diego Animal Support Foundation  raised funds to pay for the ongoing care of Gretchen, a 7-year old, spayed female German Shepherd who was  bitten by a RECLUSE SPIDER.  Here are a couple of her initial pictures, which were so awful, we immediately jumped in to start raising funds:

This poor girl had a series of ongoing operations and procedures  to remove decaying skin. She was transferred to a specialty dermatology clinic, where they worked to save her.

Gretchen's "Dad" who brought her to San Diego to live with him 5 years ago, is on SSI, and can't afford all of the bills.  He didn't just ask for a hand out, but he impressed us by showing initiative and  paying $1000, and taking out Care Credit for the initial expenses. The initial veterinarian bill for $3000.00 has now been paid off through generous donations.  Additional funds are being used to pay down the specialty dermatology vet bills that accrue until she is better.

Now for the good news and updated photos:
The response from the public has been amazing.
On behalf of the San Diego Animal Support Foundation, Gretchen and her Dad, thank you, thank you, thank you!
I received these most recent pictures from Mr. Gallagher, who says he and the veterinarian are very happy with her progress, and think her wounds are looking much better.

She is now going to the Dermatology Clinic every 7 to 10 days, but no longer requires bandages...just  the necessary medicines.  What an an amazing recovery!

We want to thank the Lipin Family Foundation for their generous donation to help Gretchen Gallegher on her road to recovery, in addition to the generous donations from hundreds of you!.  It couldn't have been done without you.    Thank you everyone for your donations....the outpouring support and concern for this dog has been truly overwhelming and appreciated more than you can ever know.

Sincerely, The San Diego Animal Support Foundation
