FIRE INFORMATION
The San Diego Animal Support Foundation was on call 24/7 throughout the fires that devastated Southern California. In addition to collecting thousands of names of people who were willing to provide emergency housing for displaced pets and people, we coordinated efforts with people from across the country to help evacuate livestock & horses from burn areas, and relocate them to temporary safe havens.
We thank the community for pulling together to make this happen…..(read NCT Article here).

FREE PET FOOD FOR FIRE VICTIMS
San Diego Animal Support Foundation & Wellness Foods Team Up to
Distribute Food for Animals Displaced By Fires!
The San Diego Animal Support Foundation (SDASF) is pleased to announce that free dog and cat food is available to pet owners who have lost their homes in the recent fires in San Diego. Thanks to the generosity of Wellness/Old Mother Hubbard Premium Pet Food, 13 pallets of high-quality food were donated to help those financially burdened by the fires.
The SDASF distributed most of the food to fire victims and rescue organizations throughout the community. People who lost their homes, and temporary foster families who are accommodating fire victims' pets were given first priority.
Because Wellness/Old Mother Hubbard products were never affected by the pet food recall, the Foundation was especially pleased to be a part of the distribution of such high-quality food.
If you are a fire victim and need dog food, please call the San Diego Animal Support Foundation at 619-847-8755. As of January 1st 2008, canned dog food is still available for pick up! We will continue to distribute it until it is all gone.
HOLIDAY PET FOOD & TOY DRIVE!!
FOOD & TOY
DRIVE BENEFITS SAN DIEGO'S HOMELESS ANIMALS
Paw Country (Formerly The Holistic Hound & Cats, Too!) Collects Donations to be
Distributed by the San Diego Animal Support Foundation
Paw Country (formerly The Holistic Hound and cats too!) hosted a pet food
and toy drive throughout December 2007. The goal was to collect 500 pounds of
food, as well as toys and other pet products to be donated to the San
Diego Animal Support Foundation to improve the welfare of animals in shelters
and rescues throughout the community.
The San Diego Animal Support Foundation
works with approximately 30 local shelters and rescues, most of whom are
under-funded and overcrowded, giving priority to those who need the most help.
The donations collected from this drive will be distributed to the agencies
according to need and urgency, as well as the 71 dogs who were adopted at the
2008 Cupids & Canines Event in Bay Park.
The San Diego Animal Support
Foundation would like to thank Paw Country for their ongoing support of the
animal welfare community!

BIG DOGS ROCK ADOPTION
EVENT A HUGE SUCCESS!
Hundreds of Large Dogs Enjoy a Day at Fiesta
Island
On Sunday, August 19th, 2007, San Diego Animal
Support Foundation's First Annual BIG DOGS ROCK! Adoption event was held on
Fiesta Island.
18 local fostering agencies and shelters participated in the event by bringing a total of
about 100 large (50-pound plus) dogs to the event. More than 37 dogs were
adopted directly from the event that day, and another two dozen dogs were
approved for adoption after "home checks" were done. All in all, a GREAT
SUCCESS! (And only one minor dog fight the whole day, which we think is pretty
amazing!)
To the local businesses and citizens who donated so generously:
Eqyss Products donated 50 HUGE bottles of quality shampoo for the dogs that were
there that day.
Muttropolis donated goodie bag treats for all the dogs, as well as giving the
foundation an EZ Up for this and future events!
Luratics donated a Cruise for Two to be raffled at the event!
SDASF volunteer, Becky Rice collected leashes, unlimited dog treats, volunteer
baggies, and raised more than $200 for the foundation with a booth at the event
where she made deals on all kinds of wonderful dogie items, in addition to
collecting all the items we used for our raffle baskets!
Dog Physical Therapist,
Trish Penick donated The Healthy Kitchen treats for the goodie bags!
The Healthy Kitchen donated large quantities of premium dog food for the
raffles.
The kids from Fallbrook High School FFA volunteered for the day, making sure
that no dog went without treats and water!
A big thanks to the Park and Rec. Department who couldn't have been
more wonderful to work with, and to all
our volunteers from all the organizations who came out that day, without pay, to
spend an entire day in the hot sun, with sand accumulating in every orifice.
(Yes, I know you all are finding it in places you never thought possible!)
Without the dedication of the rescue community, all these dogs would not have
had a chance for adoption. And for all the shelter dogs that were allowed out
of a small kennel for the day to attend this event...what a great day it must
have been for them!
By the way, Fiesta Island is an OFF-LEASH island, for those of you
who don't know. Except for a couple of protected areas, dogs are allowed to
run along all the beaches!! The fenced in area is for those dogs who may have a
tendency to try to run off. How great is this place?? To learn more about the
proposed changes to Fiesta Island, and how you can get involved in keeping it
the way it is, contact FIDO (Fiesta Island Dog Owners Group)

Volunteers are asked to sign up NOW for Big Dogs Rock 2008!
